It took a 30-inch pipe on the end of the 23mm box wrench and a lot of effort
to get the tappet cover loose and off!
I had to put one foot on the engine, and push and pull until I thought the wrench would break. So here is the intake tappet. |
Notice the 3mm square adjustment. I dont think this intake valve has ever been
adjusted. You couldn't get that cover off with ordinary tools. And I sure don't
remember it being that hard to get it off of my C200 back in 1966-68 when I
rode it and adjusted my own valves!
Another picture So I decided to adjust the valves while I had it open. Here is the 9mm box wrench to loosen and tighten the nut. If you don't have the 9mm box wrench, you can use a 9mm open end wrench to tighten after adjusting. Though I don't think it is a good idea to use the open end wrench to break it loose. A regular 9mm socket would be safer. Now if you dont have the magic 3mm box socket, which is pretty much unobtanium (lol) there is a solution. And it is very inexpensive! You are looking at the south end of a 13-cent one-inch square drive sheet rock screw! See tomorrow's installment for more adventures and the exhaust valve tappet. I cannot take credit for this idea. But the search in Yahoo! isn't working, so I cannot give proper credit to the person on the CT-90 or C-70 group that gave the idea. Just searched the hard way, it is CT-90 message # 65723 from Doug Follett. Thanks! |
