April 22, 2007:  Main stand vs. main stand pipe

This is the main (center) stand vs. main stand pipe battle page. Note the ear, i.e. the tab on the left side end of the pipe. It seems to serve no useful purpose in this model! Maybe the pipe is from another, earlier model? But I believe it was changed to a different pipe in later S90s?

The problem is that the main stand is frozen (rusted?) to its support (mounting) pipe (shaft). This isn't really bad. Unless one wants to remove the stand for any reason. Or perhaps work on the shaft that the brake pedal mounts on. Or if one wants to clean or paint the frame. So I decided I should try to separate the pipe from the stand.

Here is a close up of the pipe and main stand with motorcycle on its left side. With the pipe held up to show the side to side (up and down here) play.

The added blue lines indicate the gap of about an eighth of an inch, between the frame and the pipe in one direction.

Now after letting the pipe move down...

The added blue lines indicate the gap of about an eighth of an inch, between the frame and the pipe in the other direction.

Soaking in liquid wrench overnight or longer may free it up.
