August 22, 2007:  Acorn Nut and Cam tensioner

Here is a close up of the top of the engine.

No acorn nut in the lower right? Should I get one? Is the post too long to accomodate an acorn nut? Any comments would be appreciated.

Next is the cam chain tension bolt, also known as the left-side oil drain plug. At least that is what my owners manual calls it. It is somewhat stripped, and not coming off by normal means.

Tried box wrench, socket wrench... No luck. Back to the trusty impact wrench.

Here is my old Cal-Van 650S from the 1960s, armed with an equally old 14mm socket.

Couple of blows and it is free. No problem.

Here is the left side drain plug off. Have I messed up the cam tension by taking this out? The spring seems pretty weak? I will measure as per the shop manual.

Didn't take the rotor off (not sure if I have the tools to do it), so I can't really see what is going on on there with the cam chain tensioner. So I didn't take the tensioner push rod out.

There is no adjustment screw and nut on the left-side of the engine as shown in the owners manual! So is this "newer" engine a "no adjustment" cam chain version? Any comments would be appreciated.
