August 22, 2007: Electrolysis test on an Allen wrench
BEFORE the test...
A rusted 8mm Allen wrench about to become the cathode in a salt water bath.
Start of experiment. a little tap water plus a little salt.
Initially the salt water is quite clear.
The current is making some bubbles from the cathode. But they don't
show up very well in the picture.
About 3 amps going through the salt water
The water after the experiment is very dark green.
There are also pieces of brown-red rust also in the water.
Afterwards, the wrench looks better.
Picture is not very good, but there is a lot less rust on it.
I took another picture. This one with the anode bolt after use an unused bolt
right below it. The upper Allen wrench is after treatment, the lower Allen wrench is
untreated.
The anode bolt sure gets corroded. The bolt below it is how it looked initially.
