February 07, 2008:  Cleaning Barney

The top of the cylinder is looking much better now

One can actually see the lip in the cylinder that the head gasket will seal against.

One can actually see metal on the combusiton chamber and intake valve surfaces.

Still can't make out any metal on the exhaust valve:)

And if you remember the piston looked like a dixie cup with sprinkles on it. Now

Almost clean. Notice the dent probably from the exhaust valve (?) maybe due to slack cam chain and a too tight (no play) adjustment? I think the piston is OK? Any comments?

Still cleaning the ring grooves and piston sides, and trying to clean all the top end gasket surfaces, so that I can reassemble the top end with a new cam chain.
