March 29, 2007:  Carburetor and petcock rebuild

The carburater and petcock BEFORE and AFTER page:

If you remember, the first look inside the carb...

Notice the petrified float bowl gasket. That had to be replaced. All parts soaked in carb cleaner. Then final overnight soak in Simple Green finally got the jets and air passages loose enough to be cleaned out with pipe cleaners, etc.

Everything is pretty clean. But we need the float bowl gasket.

And here it is with the rest of the jets, etc. Wish it fit in properly! I had to trim it in four places in order for a proper fit!

Now if you remember the carb outside BEFORE...

From 2/13/2007

Here it is AFTER cleaning.

In the lower left are the trimmings of the float bowl gasket!

Just another view

Now the fuel shut-off BEFORE picture again.

Just about everything leaked here, especially the hoses which were petrified.

AFTER the same treatment as the carburater...

The four hole gasket was deteriorated, so it had to be replaced.

With new gasket ready to go.

Finally assembled.

Now the final hurdles of the fuel system: the rust in the tank, and sealing the intake manifold (pipe) at the carburater-insulator end and the cylinder head end, with the proper gaskets.
