March 31, 2007:  Intake pipe gasketing

To find the right gaskets for an S90 input pipe. What an adventure!

This was the intake pipe initially (from 2/7/2007 pictures).

And after removing from the intake port (from 2/13/2007 pictures).

Now, what was that O-ring made of, I wonder?

AFTER cleaning the intake pipe...

Nice and clean after a lot of effort.

Another view

Funny thing, it wasn't that dirty inside.

Now, the intake port O-ring, according to Honda!

Well, it is too small! So much for obsolete part numbers?

That will never stop a vacuum leak.

Now the presumed insulater block gasket.

Some asymmetry missing here!

Sure enough it doesn't fit either! 0 for 2 so far.

After staring at the parts fiche and some discussion...

Let's try it at the head end.

So this is where it goes. Anybody want an O-ring that has never been used. Now I did find a part number for a potential insulator block to pipe gasket thanks to the online parts list. Thanks vfred2000!. Your page 15 shows a gasket with a callout number; Honda's has none! The part number for callout 7 or 8 is 16201-028-000 which pops up on Honda as a gasket that exists! I don't have it yet, but I am hoping it is the one.

Anyone have any advice here as it seems that it is very important to keep the path sealed from the carburater to the intake port. Also should I add lock washers to the nuts that tighten down on these gaskets at both ends of the pipe so as to keep them from coming loose with vibration, heat, etc.? Flat washers under the lock washers also? Or would that tend to loosen? Any thoughts? See you in the S90 group or email me, click below.
